Beyond the code – the art of intellectual property in a digital environment

16/10/2012

Our very own Pete Sadler & Tom Sharman will be joined by Jon Sutcliffe from Kingston Smith LLP, to deliver this workshop at the General Assembly London on the 6th December 2012.

Overview

Whether you are a technology or telecoms giant or just about to launch your first Smartphone app, intellectual property (IP) may well be the most valuable asset that you or your company owns. IP can help to set you apart from your competitors and stop them stealing a march on your business, and can help attract investment.

In this insightful workshop, we will look at the key areas of patents, trademarks and registered designs. In particular, we will provide a case study demonstrating how technology companies can use these rights to add value to their business, as well as a practical overview of the application processes, and practical tips for protecting their rights while saving significant sums of money along the way. We will also explore ways in which companies can structure their R&D to take advantage of valuable corporation tax credits and tax efficient structures for holding IP.

By attending this workshop, you will gain a deeper level of understanding about: the different stages of protecting your IP; how to prepare for the application process in order to successfully reduce the application costs; and what you need to be aware of when developing your proposition. The session will also provide you with the knowledge of how to take advantage of your IP through various tax breaks and licensing rights.
