Jon West specialises in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the electronics, computing, and business methods fields for both individual inventors and large corporations in the UK, Europe, and the US.
Jon joined Reddie & Grose in 2010, having graduated from the University of Southampton with a Master’s degree in Physics. He is a UK and European Patent Attorney with significant experience representing clients at all levels at the European Patent Office, including contentious proceedings before the Opposition Division and the Board of Appeal.
Jon’s practice covers the physics, engineering, electronics, computing, and business methods fields, with a focus on applications relating to airport/airline/ATC technology, agricultural technology, GNSS optimisation, electric vehicles, connected transport ecosystems, security systems, semiconductor devices and integrated circuits, and various sensor technologies and their related processing, such as microphones, and ultrasound devices, and CCDs.
A key part of Jon’s offering involves assisting clients navigating the patentability and enforcement issues surrounding artificial intelligence applications, and other computer implemented inventions such as electronic trading systems and blockchain inventions.
Jon’s clients include sole individuals and SMEs as well as large corporations and so he is practised in working together with clients across the budgetary spectrum to maximise the cost-benefit of their intellectual property portfolio. Through his work with larger corporations, Jon has wide ranging experience in prosecuting patent applications in many different countries and an appreciation of the considerations required when originally drafting applications to successfully navigate the differing requirements of these countries, particularly in respect of complex technologies and potentially excluded subject-matter.
Outside of work, Jon enjoys rock climbing, windsurfing, and volunteering as an FOH sound engineer for various local events.
